The floating inferno - R. Seamer
OverzichtThis is the story of the loss by bomb, fire and torpedo of Empress of Britain, the largest of all merchant ships lost in the Second World War. She was so heavily attacked that within minutes she was an inferno, and the world's most luxurious ship was reduced to a shell. While being salvaged, still burning, she was torpedoed by a German U-boat, which was itself destroyed by British Royal Navy warships shortly afterwards.
The story of these events is told by survivors, the pilot of the German plane, the rescuers, and the U-boat commander, and details from many other sources are included.
